A marketing campaign for DC’s iconic team of villains, antiheroes, and scoundrels known as The Suicide Squad has begun. With a new billboard promoting the newest film in the DC cinematic universe with some bold colors, and a splash of mischievous mayhem.
The outdoor ad highlights the movie’s unique team of misfits, as well as displaying its irreverent and playful tone. Director James Gunn’s name is prominently featured on the poster and all of the film’s marketing material as he’s a major selling point for the upcoming blockbuster. His famous Guardians of the Galaxy franchise solidified his status as one of the most celebrated superhero movie directors.
This movie is the second attempt by DC to bring their notorious Task Force X to the big screen, following their debut in 2016’s Suicide squad. The story focuses on government agent Amanda Waller - played by Viola Davis - assembling a deadly team of expendable super-criminals to perform a top-secret mission that may very well result in their death, with a promise to decrease their sentences as the incentive for the daring operation. In addition to the aforementioned actors, the star-studded cast also includes Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag and Sylvester Stallone as King Shark.
Being part of the widely successful DC movie universe, the plot will tangle with other well-known DC characters, with expected mentions of recognizable heroes such as Superman and Batman.
The newest DC film is scheduled for release on August 5 2021, with a simultaneous release date for streaming on HBO Max.
