Because this year has forced people to be quarantined for months and follow social distancing regulations. People were becoming increasingly bored because of the lack of available activities which explains why the mobile music app, Spotify, has gained maximum reach in the past couple of months and the company's massively distributed campaign also helped to raise awareness on recently produced songs and on international top chart tracks.
Spotify has been climbing on Cairo's billboards to show all the songs you kept on repeat. Spotify tends to annually release a recap campaign regarding newly released songs, albums as well as new artists. This recap includes what's been listened to the most and in this campaign, some of the most listened to Middle Eastern artists include; Nancy Ajram, Mohammed Hamaki and Marwan Pablo. Some of the western artists lighting up the city's billboards include; BTS, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.
Many artists have been sharing their Spotify rankings on social media platforms which is part of the overall campaign. Spotify tells a story about resilience and gratitude during its 2021 campaign since audio streaming services have seen a huge rise.
